Kontrabanda

A tribute to Kontrabanda, a somewhat cult ex-Yugoslav underground rock band that was active during the 1990s. The band, known for its provocative brand of rock - dubbed “porno voodoo rock’n’roll” - was founded by brothers Vladimir “Đenka” Radovanović (vocals) and Branislav “Bane” Radovanović (guitar, vocals) in the industrial town of Pančevo in 1991. Kontrabanda was a part of the ‘90s “Brzi bendovi Srbije” (Fast Bands of Serbia) movement; by 1999 they released two mostly well-received albums accompanied by effective music videos that went into heavy rotation at independent TV stations, but - as was the case with the majority of their contemporaries - Kontrabanda disintegrated as Serbia socially and politically transitioned into new millennium…
